Inis Mór
The largest of the three Aran Islands
Inis Mór is the largest of the three islands that make up the Aran Islands which lie just off the coast of Co Galway. Each island has a different atmosphere with a common theme of being havens of authentic Irish culture.
Inis Mór is rich beyond belief in heritage and boasts ancient monasteries and iconic stone forts, including the World UNESCO recognised Dun Aonghasa. As well as a rich heritage the landscape and geology of the islands is amazing. A patchwork of fields, traversed by meandering stone walls that terminate at the edges of the awesome sea cliffs that face a relentless battle with the wild rolling Atlantic is a sight that has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
Each of the islands are places with a unique geology and archaeology complemented by a gentle hospitality, and it is by no means an understatement that this is one trip everyone should make when visiting the wonderful West of Ireland.
